Maya Patel

Tax & compliance editor

“A deadline missed in year one can cost more than the formation itself. I want every director to know their dates before the first invoice goes out.”

Biography

Maya covers everything a director must file and pay after incorporation: statutory accounts, Corporation Tax, the confirmation statement, PAYE, VAT and directors’ own Self Assessment. Her guides distinguish Companies House deadlines from HMRC deadlines, show the assumptions behind every calculation and flag where a company’s circumstances mean it should speak to a qualified accountant.

Maya’s background is in small-business bookkeeping and compliance, helping owner-managed companies keep records, plan for tax bills and avoid late-filing penalties. She has seen first-hand how the first year of a company, with its long first accounting period and overlapping tax periods, catches new directors out.

She built the logic behind our interactive tax and filing calendar and checks the arithmetic in every money and tax guide, including salary and dividend examples, Corporation Tax marginal relief and VAT threshold scenarios.

Maya also acts as the date and calculation checker for guidance written by other editors, so that every deadline and figure on the site is traceable to an HMRC or Companies House source.
